"THE SHOW THAT GOT PHILADELPHIA GOING"

Opening in September 1947, the Better Philadelphia Exhibit attracted over 340,000 visitors over a two month run. The exhibit attempted to inspire Philadelphian's to think seriously about big ideas and grand possibilities for their urban landscape­and to a great extent succeeded in doing so. While visionary in scope, may of the proposals were ultimately realized, such as the "greenways" of Society Hill and the replacement of the "Chinese wall."

Please join us for a lecture and roundtable discussion celebrating the legacy of the 1947 Better Philadelphia Exhibition. GREG HELLER, president of the Ed Bacon Foundation, will present an in-depth look at the exhibit and the individuals who organized it. His talk will be followed by a roundtable discussion with David Brownlee, James Kise, and others on the exhibits impact on the growth and development of Philadelphia in the postwar era.
