Bacon marker dedicated

CENTER CITY — The late legendary city planner Ed Bacon was honored yesterday when a plaque in his honor was unveiled outside of Love Park.

"I think Ed would have been overjoyed to see us dedicating this marker on this spot," said Gregory Heller, president of the Ed Bacon Foundation.

Bacon designed the JFK plaza along with Penn Center across the street and the stretch of stores on Market East.

His ideas "shaped our city's landscape," Heller said.

The marker was dedicated by the city's Historical Commission. It was placed on 15th Street in a ceremony that included members of his family, Gov. Ed Rendell and Mayor John Street.

Bacon's son, the actor Kevin Bacon, wasn't in attendance.
