James L. Brown IV

Director

James L. Brown IV is currently Executive Director of the Parkside Historic Preservation Corporation, where he has managed the accurate rehabilitation of more than 20 Victorian mansions in West Philadelphia. For his preservation work Mr. Brown has won the prestigious Rudy Bruner Award for Excellence in the Urban Environment, the National Trust Award for Historic Preservation, and the Preservation Alliance's Lifetime Achievement Award. A native of Richmond, Virginia and a graduate of Virginia Union University, Mr. Brown previously worked as an associate at Keene, Cam & Brown, Planners and Architects, a consultant for Mantua Community Planners, and an Urban Renewal Technician for the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority. Mr. Brown is a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Philadelphia Historical Commission, Friends of Fairmount Park, Historic Preservation Task Force, and is a board member of the Philadelphia Zoo. Mr. Brown lives with his wife, Charlotte, in their house in Parkside. He has two children, James and Nancy, and one grandchild, Julien.
